About the Lifespan Calculator

I think this is an excellent tool – it’s got a nice clean look and feel that’s in keeping with the contemporary look of today’s calculators. In terms of using it in the advice process, I can see our advisers getting benefit out of such a calculator.

In my practice, I ask each client to use the Lifespan Calculator as part of our process. Typically, everything they've seen in 'retirement planning land' talks about a life expectancy of late 80s. It sparks important conversations about how to budget now and into the future, what their long term plans are, and what really matters when you have the time and the money. It helps clarify how much clients need to accumulate. This is retirement planning in its essence.

The calculator is a useful tool given impending uptake of longevity products or CIPRs.

I have not seen any other calculators that can take into account these different factors other than gender and age. The explanatory text on technical words and the use of different digital aids to smooth the user experience (e.g.,, colouring the confidence level and the progress bar) is great.

Tools like the Lifespan Calculator that are interactive, look good and are educational have a wide appeal on a topic where there is strong interest and a strong need.

I like it! Very simple and informative. We are going to need tools like this, especially in the advice experience.

I find it a great tool for financial planners when providing projections for clients retirement needs. It was an eye opener to see the significant difference in life expectancy of up to 10 years in some cases.

I have started using the tool as part of my client file notes to help comply with the code of ethics, including standard 6 to demonstrate that just because part of the clients funds are in a lifetime income stream doesn’t mean there will be sufficient overall income for life given people are living longer and demonstrating this will be essential moving forward.
